Last month work took me to Addis Ababa. It was a fascinating trip for all kinds of reasons, but it was particularly striking that huge swathes of the city have been levelled recently. In a matter of weeks. There are acres and acres of rubble behind hoardings in the centre and throughout the wider city. I didn't see any plant machinery around, but a few days into the trip I saw a work party and I realised it was people with sledgehammers. Taking down a whole city.
